Where can I buy a baby travel system?

You can either go to a shop or buy online. Our advice is to find one you like (through a friend or in a shop) and then go home and buy it online at the best price. If you search this website you will a link to the best price online – usually Mothercare or Kiddicare.

Will I need to buy any extras?

Probably yes, unless you go for a complete package. A lot of travel systems aren’t supplied with car seat adapters, raincovers or parasols and these can easily add another £50 to your budget. By buying a brand such as Britax you will get nearly everything you need included in the final price.

What sort of warranty do I get when buying a travel system?

The retailer will normally guarantee your travel system for a year, the manufacturer will also but after that you won’t have any cover. Most manufacturers do have a great support service although there could be a charge for repair/inspection.

Is there such thing as a cheap but good travel system?

The words cheap and good don’t normally go together. However, in the last couple of years there have been some great budget baby travel systems launched that won’t break the bank. If you’re looking for high quality at a low price we recommend you check out the Graco and Baby Weavers range.

What accessories are available for my new travel system?

You will be surprised to know that everything has been thought of! From hand warmers to wheel weights! Obviously there are the standard accessories like raincovers, car seat adapters and shopping baskets but you can buy aftermarket drink holders and other accessories for your travel system. Obviously, we recommend you buy the same brand as your travel system but a lot of the universal products are just as good. Please check sizes and product information to see whether the accessory is fully compatible with your travel system.

How much is a decent travel system?

How long is a piece of string! Prices vary, as do specifications. You can buy a decent travel system that includes a car seat for under £300. You don’t need to spend more than £500, although if you do you might actually find the product is more of a fashion accessory and like most fashionable items it won’t be very practical! The most popular type of baby travel systems are those that use a pushchair chassis with a Group 0+ car seat. This type of system allows you to easily move your baby from car to pushchair without disturbing them. The car seat then attaches to the pushchair chassis in a secure and safe manner.

When buying a travel system you should look out for the following:

• Is there a raincover and footmuff included? These can be expensive to buy separately so consider this when you make your purchase.
• Does the pushchair require car seat adapters to allow the car seat to be attached? Some pushchairs (Britax in particular) come with adapters, others don’t. Again, these can be expensive to purchase.
• Can a double kit be used? Some modern pushchairs (Britax and Phil & Teds) can have double kits attached allowing two children to be carried.
• Warranty length. Pushchairs and car seats tend to have a hard life and although they shouldn’t break, sometimes they do. Bumping a pushchair up and down curbs, collapsing and throwing it in the car boot can take its toll so remember to check warranty length to give you peace of mind.
• Range of colours. Most baby travel systems come in a wide range of colours, although black is the most popular it won’t be the cheapest!

We also recommend you shop around, high street stores are great for you to see what it looks like and how it feels but they will be expensive. Go to the shop and find the one you like, then come home and buy online!
